Understanding child development tracking
What it's for
Child development tracking helps you follow how each child is growing across areas like language, motor skills and social development. It gives families a clear, evidence-based picture of their child's progress — one of the things that sets a quality center apart.
Where to find it
The Learning and Development group in the menu, which includes Development, Observations and Portfolio.
How the pieces fit together
- Development — a big-picture view of every child's progress across developmental
domains (like Language & Literacy or Motor Skills), based on a learning framework.
- Observations — the individual moments you record about a child, each tied to a
milestone and a mastery level. Observations are what build up the development picture.
- Portfolio — a collection of a child's work and highlights over time, to share
with families.
- Learning frameworks — the set of domains and milestones everything is measured
against. You choose the framework that fits your center.
Tips & limits
- These are part of Skooly's Learning and Development (PRO) features.
- Start by choosing your framework (see *How to set up learning frameworks*), then
record observations, which feed the development view and each child's portfolio.
