How to record an assessment result
What it's for
An assessment is a graded item — a test, quiz, assignment, project, or exam. Recording an assessment result captures a student's score so it's on their record and can appear in their progress report. This is one of the two ways to record progress; the other is skill progress (see *How to update a student's skill progress*).
Where to find it
Go to Learning → Student Progress and use the Add Grade button.
Step-by-step
- Go to Learning → Student Progress.
- Click Add Grade, then choose Single Student (or Batch Entry to grade several students at once).
- In the Add Grade Entry dialog, choose the student.
- Pick the assessment type — Test, Quiz, Assignment, Project, Performance, Practical, Midterm, Final, or Participation — and, if you use it, a weight %.
- Enter the assessment name (for example "Term 1 Skills Test").
- Choose a grade type — Numeric, Letter Grade, or Pass / Fail — and enter the score (and max score).
- (Optional) Add notes or feedback.
- Click Save. The result is recorded against the student.
Tips & limits
- Batch Entry lets you record the same assessment for many students in one go.
- The assessment type describes the kind of graded item; the assessment name is the specific one.
- Recorded results feed into the student's progress report (see *How to generate and send progress reports*).
- This records a score; to record how a student is mastering a skill, use skill progress instead (see *How to update a student's skill progress*).
