Understanding Learning
What it's for
Learning is where your academy tracks how students are developing — the results of their assessments (tests, quizzes, assignments) and their progress on the skills you teach — and turns that into progress reports you share with families. This article explains how the pieces fit together so you know what to set up first.
Where to find it
Open Learning from the main menu. It's organized into Teacher Tools (recording progress and reports) and Learning Configuration (the setup behind them).
The pieces
Configuration (set these up first)
- Skills Library — the skills you assess and want to report on. See *How to set up your skills library*.
- Terms & Periods — the academic terms your reporting is organized around (for example a spring term). See *How to set up terms and periods*.
- Report Templates — the layout and content of your progress reports. See *How to create a report template*.
Teacher tools (the day-to-day)
- Student Progress — where teachers record two things: an assessment result (a graded item like a test or quiz — see *How to record an assessment result*) and a student's skill progress (how they're mastering a skill — see *How to update a student's skill progress*).
- Progress Reports — generate reports from what's been recorded and send them to families. See *How to generate and send progress reports*.
The typical flow
- Set up your skills, terms, and a report template.
- Teachers record assessment results and skill progress as the term goes on.
- At the right time, generate progress reports and send them to families.
Tips & limits
- Do the configuration first — reports and progress recording draw on the skills, terms, and templates you've set up.
- Families see the reports you send in their Family Portal (see *Viewing progress reports*).
